We Built A Trampoline Park in our Home

We wanted to create something spectacular in our new home.

Swimming pool: not for us

Swimming pools seem to be the norm when it comes to luxury home upgrades, but Michelle’s mom has an incredible pool at her house just a 6 min. drive away (and we are always looking for a good excuse to go visit her). So we were looking for a different and more unique way to upgrade.

A trampoline park/ foam pit was the obvious choice!

Living in a colder climate, there are not as many active activities to take our time — because the outdoors are not really an option. I mean how many snowmen can one family make in one season? So creating something indoors was key.

The Setup

  1. We went to the local trampoline park — here in Utah it’s Airborne — and actually measured the height of the ceiling. We wanted to especially make the ceiling tall enough that even the super-bouncy olympic trampolines wouldn’t send us through the roof.
    • building our basement
  2. We added the 23′ deep hole to our house plans. We arranged to have it under the garage and use a suspended slab.deep pit trampoline foundation
  3. We finished our house and moved it.
  4. This step was all luck and it saved us over $10,000: there was a local trampoline gym going out of business. We bought 5 trampolines from them and like 6 Ford f-250 truckloads of foam! All this was around $2,500, and new/retail would be over $10k (depending on the customization of your trampolines.)
  5. It took about two weeks, but I stiff-brushed the entire space — every concrete square inch! — then mopped the whole surface, too! It was a painstaking process, but it was necessary to prepare the surface for the paint to adhere properly.
    • mopping the concrete to prepare for primer
  6. PAINT!

  7. I installed the best high-bay lights. I got mine from amazon. Luckily during our build I had the electrician install all the wiring and the boxes.

    • the best high-bay lights for garages or warehouses
  8. Epoxy the floors! (I’ll do another post on this later.)
  9. Move all the trampolines in! This took the whole day but was the most fun work day I think I’ve ever had!
  10. I lint-rolled every. single. flippin. foam. block. Because they were “previously enjoyed” I wanted them all in new-condition and free from any particles.
  11. JUMP!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post as much as we have during the last couple years building it! Please take a moment to comment and share so we can do more awesome projects like this!!!
